Til/\NU lJi’ KEN DODD

You may be wondering why the doors would be opening at 6.15pm for this show. Perhaps Ken Dodd likes to get his cocoa a bit earlier these days. He will be 79 at the end of the year, after all. Or maybe he’s just mindful of the clientele he attracts. Many will be those who were there at the dawning of the Diddymen and stayed loyal and true during the sad bread-under—the- bed years. Both of those may well be true but the main reason is that the most famous man to come from Knotty Ash likes a good long show. He still has a hallowed slot in the Guinness Book of Records for telling a mere 1500 jokes in three and half hours. That’s probably more than Joe Pasquale

will tell in his lifetime.

So, prepare for those famous teeth (caused by a childhood cycling accident) to be gleaming at you as he dips into his Giggle Map, the lengthy research he’s undertaken into what makes people laugh in different parts of the country. The respect he gives audiences is returned. In 2003 he became the first recipient of the Living Legend award by the British Comedy Society and last year, he was invited by the Royal Shakespeare Company to talk on humour in the Bard’s work, being honoured with the title of A Fellow of Infinite Jest (a line from Hamlet) for the night. By jove, this will be a titifalarious night. Or a very long one at least.
