Home to a whole host of vegetarians and vegan eateries. as well as a thriVing artistic scene. Brighton also has one of the largest queer communities in the UK (an estimated 20% of the populationi, Its reputation as a 'welcome all' kind of a (2in probably started when it became the chosen refuge of the Prince of Wales lollowrng his illegal marriage to Catholic Maria Fit/herbert in 1785. but was no doubt cemented by holiday Visits from famous gay men such as Oscar Wilde. Ivor Novello and Noel Coward. These days Brighton's gay Village is based in and around Kemptown (or Camp Town as many know Ill area of the city, which every year is home to not one but two Pride festivals. The main celebration takes place during at the height of summer (Sun 30 Jul—Sun 6 Aug 2006) complete with two all-day street parties and a carnival parade followed by a Winter Pride to brighten up the dark months of February.
