REASONS TO GO SEE

1 He’s a ball of energy Not quite in the .Jason Byrne field of sweaty stage action. Des still has acres of .lll)l£tll(j',’ to draw on for his set. The tact that he's a mere toundltng Win in comedic terms probably helps. 2 Clearly this fella was born to be a comedy star At the tender age of t 1. Dos and a pal won a talent contest at Holyrood Secondan; lll Glasgow by doing impersonations of Chris l‘uhank and lrank Spencer. 3 The kids still love him His appeal to the nation's weans attracted the bosses on SMTV where he hosted for a spell. His Vicar ot Dribley sketch ended in him being spat upon by the likes of the Sugababes and Blazrn' Squad. A career highlight. no doubt. 4 He’s as pretty as a peach The ladies tell me that it's a welcome sight to see a male stand-up who washes his hair more than Just during August. and. who knows. may even scrub his hails from time to time. Company magazine named him as one of the 50 most eligible bachelors in 2004. 5 Not to be confused with The burly Des Clarke who was assistant manager at the Pacific Bank in Erinsborough (yup. we‘re talking 1980s Neighbours here) who was tilted at the altar at least three times. tBrtan Donaldson)

You may have seen Ms Martinez being

gently mocked for her cerebral palsy by Ricky Gervais in the excellent Extras episode with Kate Winslet (now there‘s someone I'd like to see facing a heckler or two at the Stand), but now she’s back in the place where she’s made a second career for herself. An ex- Grange Hill pupil of the mid-90$, Frannie shot to stand-up fame with her 2001 show I’m Perfect (or Imperfect, depending on what you’re reading) and her self-deprecating humour looks set to continue charming us.
