Music news that was surprised by just how tall Bobby Gillespie really is.

I So Edinburgh festival madness is upon us again, and as usual there is a tasty quotient of music to keep the peeps sweet during August courtesy of T on the Fringe. As well as Snow Patrol on 25 August and Muse with My Chemical Romance on 24 August, both of which are at Meadowbank Stadium, the Liquid Room will be hosting the Bees on 9 August, the Subways on 27 August and Portland’s magical Dandy Warhols on 18 August. Zane Lowe’s down-tempo soul outfit Breaks Co-Op make their Edinburgh debut on 13 August at Cabaret Voltaire. To top it all off, Belle and Sebsatian play their biggest Edinburgh show ever with a special outdoor shindig at Princes Street Gardens on 27 August too boot. For more Fringe news, see Agenda, page 9.

And there's a fair few gigs on outside the festival. For starters. List columnist and ldlewild frontman Roddy Woomble has a series of gigs around Scotland in support of his debut solo long player My Secret is My Silence which is released on 24 July by Pure Records. His tour takes in a launch party at Mono. Glasgow on 24 July, Queen's Hall. Edinburgh, 26 July and Oran Mor, Glasgow, on 2 August. Other gigs announced this issue include a second night for New Order at Carling Academy. The 18 October date is sold out but there is a second show on 19 October. Meanwhile, Bert Jansch is back to play the ABC on 26 August. and, contrastingly. a reformed INXS play Barrowland on 4 November. Victorious Eurovision numpties Lordi play the garage on 30 October while much touted US alt-rock bods, Parts and Lab0ur play Nice'n'SIeazy on 27 July. Finally. King Creosote will be wafting his wistful tunes around the ABC on 26 October. As if that lot wasn't enough. there's a series of Fence Collective Specials at the Underbelly in Edinburgh during August. More on them soon.
