CLUBS DEATH DISCO The Arches, Glasgow, Sat 19 Aug
Last month Death Disco hosted South London’s Horse Meat Disco, a night that describes itself as a ‘21st century tea dance’ of house, electro and Itan-disco and in only a year has become an unpretentious fixture on the English capital’s gay scene. In October, the Arches will celebrate 15 years of packin’ ‘em in with a night combining the venue’s first ever club night, Cafe Loco, and Death Disco, but in the meantime, the murderous dancefloor plays host to the dark talents of Black Strobe (a deliciously impossible moniker) and a live roster of - in their words - ‘frozen balearic, gay biker-house, boogie-trance, heavy electronica and soft-goth’.
Exciting sounds, no doubt, combining as they do the DJ tricks of Ivan Smagghe - of Rough Trade record shop fame - and the goth-metal mindset of fellow Parisian Arnaud Rebotini. It means there’ll be hints of Depeche Made, My Bloody Valentine and Cabaret Voltaire in among the techno and bleep-house, all coming together to fashion a musical mutant. Vinyl support comes from Optimo’s Twitch, the Manhattan Project and resident DJ Mingo-Go. (Robin Lee)
