I read last fortnight's letter about the security incident at Indian Summer. It seems totally at odds With the atmosphere I experienced. Great lineup. enthusiastic crowd and affable bar staff. all in a green, leafy area small enough not to lose your mates in. big enough not to feel like supermarket poultry. There's no denying that queues for both loos and booze were excessive (I admit that in a desperate moment I too made use of the alternative facilities). and that it'll take more than a few strands of fairy lights for the event to become ‘boutique'. but who ever gets things perfect first time round? I know where my limited festival funds will be going. Julie

GET IT RIGHT
On the Artworks Scot/and programme. shown on BBC2. Sun 8 Oct. a clip of the film Peeping Tom was shown. But the red haired. blue-eyed actress was NOT Moira Shearer. Peeping Tom features a film being made within the film. The lead character of this film-within-the-film is Moira Shearer.
Sadly. the clip shown was the understudy of Moira Shearer's character. seconds before she was murdered (Shearer finds her body). I'm stunned that nobody working on the piece noticed this blatant error and they do Meira Shearer a great injustice -- she had a small but significant part in the film and was excellent. we remember it. 'Viv' the character murdered on the film set in Peeping Tom was indeed played by Morra Shearer. lf we 're mistaken, this sounds like a genuine accident. rather than la/iness or ignorance.

Further to Djunabee's letter. me and my friends were also ‘knocked back' from the Polo Lounge the other week. I was asked upon approaching the door, ‘how many are in your party’?‘ As it happened my party consisted of me (a relatively straight looking gay gee/er. although I was wearing my tight fitting xip up jacket. just to look the part) and two girly (straight. but one could probably be persuaded otherwise) friends.
We thought we'd go and try and get into Moda for a drink, however we were given the same excuse there. Upon questioning the friendly door person I asked if it was (20/ our party was made up of two females and one male. who all kinda looked straight.
I am left wondering if my party had been two guys and a girl. we might have been given entry.

that everyone in England was educated from kindergarten to University into rabid hatred of a self-governing Scotland; that it is preached in every church and on every street corner in every town in England that one day every last Scot must be slaughtered in order to make room for a return to English domination. Moderates who deviate from this orthodoxy lose their jobs. are driven out or murdered.
lrnagine further that a Norwegian government also professing an historical claim to Scotland. sees an opportunity for local political influence and funds an army of Anglo Norwegian militants to take control of a wide belt of territory along the Scottish border. From this vantage point. suicide squads regularly sneak in to blow up cafes in Edinburgh and murder tourists visiting the Festival. while the English use their influence to start an international campaign condemning Scotland for tightening border controls to protect themselves. Carlisle's school playgrounds. hospital car parks and housing estate community centres are taken over to house the artillery which maintains a constant barrage of Western Scotland.
Life grinds to a halt in Glasgow where citizens are forced to live in their cellars. Deaths mount under the rain of random bombardment.
Westminster claims it cannot control the terrorists on English soil. All sorts of international do-gooders tell Scotland not to over-react against this 'light' attack.
How long would Holyrood allow this situation to persist? And how much respect would the Scots have for the opinions of people who find it expedient not to understand the Scottish point of view. rationalising this by adopting the prejudice that the blameless English are the victims of a fascist Scottish nationalism adopted by a nation of hairy-kneed. be— sporranned whingers?

While this is a faSCinat/ng scenario, we 're a little surprised that your analogy equates Israel with Scotland. and the Palestinian territories with England. In terms of the respective countries' financial and political suppOrt from other cocintries, the analogy seems too far removed from the realities of the Middle East to be very meaningful.
