love, betrayal and rural decay gets the big screen treatment for two exclusive dates only, the second of which is a matinee screening - which means £3 for all tickets people! Filmmaker Vincente Minnelli (Meet Me in St Louis, An American in Paris) made better films than this one but few more savagely dramatic. Jennifer Jones as wannabe socialite Emma Bovary was a revelation for the many critics of the time who thought inen Leigh should have been cast in the role, and Van Heflin as her dull- arsed husband is just perfect, with Louis Jourdan well cast as Rodolphe Boulanger, Emma’s lover who betrays her and leaves her to despair.
