1 He’s Irish, and therefore great OK, that doesn‘t necessarily equate, but the 26—year~old singer songwriter grew up in Bray. a seaside town outside Dublin, and with no record player in the house, a musician dad and artistic mum, he was brought up on the lrish folk tradition, a host of travelling minstrels doing a turn right there in his living room.

2 He’s not Bob Dylan or Nick Drake or Jeff Buckley or . . . Needless to say. the immensely talented troubadour has been compared to all the usual folky singer songwriter touchstones. but really, his incredible guitar dexterity and cheeky. bizarre linguistic inventiveness are unique and stand in their own right. For what it’s wonh. he cites Woody Guthrie as more of an influence than any of the above bunch.

3 He believes in signs The title of his debut album, The End of History. came about when he bought a tweed jacket. stuck his hand in the pocket. and pulled out a piece of paper with those very words on it.
