Allan Radcliffe reports on the latest Scottish summer festivals’ announcements

Early Bird tickets still available for The Outsider The Outsider, the newest addition to Scotland’s festivals calendar, is a must for culture lovers hoping to escape the city this summer. The three-day event, part of the Highland 2007 celebrations, takes place over the Midsummer Weekend (Friday 22-Sunday 24 June) at Rothiemurchus in the Cairngorms. The confirmed main stage headliners are KT Tunstall (Saturday) and Crowded House (Sunday), playing their first Scottish show since reforming, as well as King Creosote, Salsa Celtica and DJ Fred Deakin of Lemon Jelly and comedians such as Craig Hill (pictured), with further acts still to be announced.

The festival also features a strong focus on the surrounding landscape, offering a number of activities such as the Merida Outsider Mountain Bike Event and Britain’s Most Beautiful Run, 3 12km trail for runners of all abilities, as well as wildlife watching, Canadian canoeing and rock climbing.

Discounted ‘Early Bird’ tickets are currently available from the festival’s website. Weekend tickets covering all three days can be bought for £50, Friday night tickets are £15 and Saturday or Sunday only tickets are £25. However, these discounts are only on offer until Saturday 31 March, after

Line-up announced

for Connect

Also part of Highland 2007. the eagerly anticipated Connect festival has unveiled its impressive inaugural line-up. Set in the beautiful surrounds of Inverary Castle on the banks of Loch Fyne, the event is organised by DF Concerts, the organisers of T in the Park. though aimed at a more mature audience.

The three-day musical beano kicks off in style on Friday 31 August with a performance by The Beastie Boys, while legendary Glasgow rockers Primal Scream take over headline duties on the Saturday. giving way to Icelandic icon Bjtirk on Sunday. The Jesus and Mary Chain will be playing their first gig in Scotland in nearly

First acts confirmed for 1' on the Fringe

Grammy-winning rockers, Foo Fighters, and Leeds five-piece. Kaiser Chiefs (pictured), are the first bands to be unveiled for the seventh T on the Fringe. Dave Grohl’s band will play Meadowbank Stadium on Tuesday 21 August while the Chiefs take to the stage on Friday 24 August. The List expands its digital operations

The List has accelerated its digital strategy with the appointment of an award-winning new media team. The List Digital will build on the successes enjoyed by the magazine since its launch in 1985.

The new team joined the existing staff at the company's Edinburgh headquarters this week. They will extend the scope of The List's website, www.list.co.uk, already the leading arts and entertainment site in Scotland. building on its reputation as a one stop information shop for people who live in Scotland and enjoy an active social life.

Alistair Brown, general manager of The List Digital, said ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to take a relatively small organisation with a great brand, a great team and wonderful content to a whole new level online.

‘The existing editorial content held by The List is unique. of very high quality and provides an excellent foundation for the rapid development of a new digital publishing business.’

Brown spent the last seven years as an executive with Scotsmancom and previously worked for the Financial Times for seven years. He is joined by business development manager Justine Watt. senior designer Bruce Combe, senior developer Andy Carmichael and Iain McCusker, who had been a software developer with The List.

Watt joins the company from NEWS.com.au, a Sydney-based business owned by News Corporation, where she worked on sites including MySpace.com and FoxSportscom.

Claire Prentice, editor of The List, said “The List is already the biggest and best arts, events and entertainment magazine in the country. This is an exciting time and presents a wonderful opportunity to enhance our reputation and develop into new media.’
