It was just the tonic I needed to boost my spirits at this gloomy time of year. I am now planning a trip to Krakow next month and can't wait. I was very pleased to read the interviews with Dumfries celebrities. actress Ashley Jensen and comedian Mark Nelson. in the last issue. As a fellow Dumfries person I feel that we often do not get the recognition we deserve; we are a vibrant and talented community. as shown in the documentary The Wicker Man which was shot in the Dumfries and Galloway area. Re: The Great Escape (571) I am writing in response to your travel feature — what a great idea. I know it isn't very PC to say it these days with all the concern about global warming and carbon footprints but I am a big fan of budget flights and fly abroad, usually within Europe. whenever time and my finances allow it. I too have managed to go abroad for less than £50 — in my case it was to Rome with a uni friend. It cost us 232 to fly there and back. leaving us with enough money for a large plate of pasta. a couple of glasses of red wine and a night in a hostel. We met lots of other travellers and had a blast without blowing our budget. It was one of the best trips of my life. Sadly airline taxes are making this more difficult. but I admire the tenacity and enterprise of your two reporters. There are many other things we can do to limit our carbon footprint without having to spend the whole year in Britain. And as the article ‘Green Sense‘ in the guide pointed out. it is possible to travel

I loved your preview of 300 last issue. I have been a huge fan of Frank Miller for years and it is great to see his stuff getting the big screen treatment it really deserves. The interview with Zack Snyder was interesting too and it will certainly help me to look at the film in a different way when I go to see it.
