The name itself belies the subtle genius of this boy’s work, as Ciaran McFeely (for he is the Kid that is Simple) has managed to successfully harness the pure joy that made Badly Drawn Boy such a bloody marvellous listen in his early years while also throwing in everything from broken down beatbox to bluegrass banjos and luscious George Martin arrangements to the heady brew. And while he can’t manage all of that live he can still do the business.
