headline for Hebrides Ensemble’s next major programme, but commissioning Irish composer David Fennessy (pictured) to write a new piece to be played alongside it is certainly a step to somewhere. Thirty- year-old Fennessy, a past student of James MacMillan, is a real rising star on the composition scene. Currently working with Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, Fennessy started his musical career as a guitarist in a school rock band.
