REASONS TO 60 SEE

GEORGIE FAME

He’s one of us . . . He was christened Clive Powell and hailed from Leigh, Lancashire, where that model rock'n‘roll upbringing of front-room knees—up and local church choir lead him to be a fore- groover in the UK'S rhythm and blues scene. Incessant beat-artist re~dubber Larry Parnes bestowed upon him the immodest Georgie Fame moniker after ‘Lance Fonune' had already been snapped up.

. . . but cooler Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames were the epitome of hip in the mid—60$ when the bob- swinging. chart-topping ‘Yeh Yeh' brushed The Beatles“ '1 Feel Fine’ aside to sit atop the hit parade. He’s an original A fresh-faced Fame became one of the first and few in Blighty to champion the Hammond 83 organ at his reSIdency at Gl-friendly Flamingo. finding room in his repertoire for ska and bluebeat to boot.

He didn’t stand still Our Georgie ploughed on to punt cocktail bar crooning and finger- clicking pop through0ut a career alongside the likes of Bill Wyman, Alan Price and Van Morrison.

He’s not going to take no for an answer Legend has it that when neither the BBC nor Radio Luxemburg would air ‘Yeh Yeh'. Fame's then plugger Ronan O‘Rahilly went ahead and launched his own offshore pirate station. the now notorious Radio Caroline.
