Occupation: Internationally renowned beatboxer extraordinaire. collaborator to the stars, sometime gossrp magazine mainstay.

Where’s he from? Twenty- eight year old Lee Potter is originally from Billingshurst, West Sussex. and he first got into beatboxrng by. as he recalls. annOying his mum by dOing weird things with his vorce when he was a small boy. then hearing Biz Markie do it on the radio and recognising a kindred Spirit. In his teens, young Lee used to escape the nine-to-five dullness of Billingshurst by escaping to London at the weekend. which is where he met fellow beginners Roots Manuva and Shonee Blitz. and hooked up With the 360 Physicals crew. His break came when he sent a demo tape to DJ Vadim. whose label financed his first release.

What’s he done? Released the albums The Permanent Marker and E/ocuti'on, the new single “Reveal Your Inner Self'. and been a member of the Rock Steady and Scratch Pervert crews. In fact. Kela's new mix CD. which this t0ur promotes. IS a collaboration with Plus One of Scratch Perverts. entitled On Tour Van Damage the show Will be fully live. with DJ Skeletrik and Spider J.

Where else might I know him from? Just about everywhere, it seems. A man whose singular talent is just abOut as large as his knack for self- promotion. Kela has appeared onstage with Pharrell Williams. Justin Timberlake and Super Furry Animals. The blog on his website tells excitedly of the occasion recently where he jammed at a Prince aftershow in London alongSIde support act Nikka Costa and Prince himself. while it also reveals he‘s been in the studio with Plan B and new rave munchkins Hadouken! and Does It Offend You. were at university in Nottingham a decade ago, the club- friendly disco/house/funk outfit have grown in number and ambition since then, with the new, as-yet-untitled album - their fifth, the last one being 2005‘s A Night On Earth representing the quintet's most collaborative effort yet.

‘We all went into the studio to write at the same time,’ says Moore, ‘which I hate to use this word, because it‘s so overused - made it more organic. We started with live instruments this time, and that's very hard to recreate electronically, whereas when we did the other albums the samples and keyboard parts would come first. I think the confidence to do that comes from playing live.‘

Add a guest slot from DJ Deep and the cream of local DJ talent to the mixing pot alongside the Crazy P live experience, and you have another unmissable U|tragroove. (David Pollock)

With a new album recorded and all-but mixed, the artists formerly known as Crazy Penis have toned down to appeal to the popular market. ‘Yeah, the Penis has gone,’ says singer Danielle Moore. ‘Thank God, because when my nana said it back to me it just didn’t sound right. We got some flak from a Christian church in Manchester about the flyposters too, although now we’ve had a bit of a backlash in New Zealand, because apparently Crazy P is another name for crystal meth there. You can’t win.’
