the tour to support Don't Believe the Truth. More acourately it shows the relentlessness and tedium of touring and Liam and Noel‘s fondness for stumping foreign journalists with surreal one-liners. The film, pointlessly shot in black and white to make it look arty instead of capturing the beauty or oddness of some of the places they visit, offers few new insights, but is worth a look to see a well oiled Charlotte Church haranguing Noel, fresh off the stage in Cardiff. Well Deep: Ten Years of Big Dada Recordings (Big Dada) eeee celebrates a decade of Britain's most stimulating hip hop label. bringing together their promo videos and a documentary about the genesis of the label. The highlight here just also happens to be their finest hour commerCially, Roots Manuva’s hilarious school sports day promo for ‘Witness'. is another chapter in the tabloidising of hip hop music and should be avoided. We've technically mentioned ldlewild's Scottish Fiction (Parlophone) 00.. already. as it comes with the band's ‘Best Of ' compilation. but as an example of giving a sneak peak into the life and processes of a band in an unaffected truly human way there's few to better it.

Not quite so much fun to be had in the company of The Fratellis (Island) captures a band worryingly short of charisma with clinical accuracy and comes over as boorish and flat.

The prime concern with the intergalactic spectacle that is The Flaming Lips’ live show is that the music comes off second best to confetti. spacecraft and dancing santas. UFOs at the Zoo (Warners) eeeee suggests instead that the melee is fuelled by the otheworldly magic in the music. Constructed along the same lines as the ldlewild film, where the concert footage is interspersed with documentary footage. we see the build up and aftermath of this homecoming show in an outdoor amphitheatre in Oklahoma City Zoo. We see the show from a fan‘s perspective. out in the parking lot. in the queue and in the crowd, beautifully capturing the sense of occasion.

REM Live eeee (Warners) isn‘t quite so extravagant but instead captures the band live in Dublin in 2005 in crisp. slick fashion. The set lifts mostly from their most recent album. Around the Sun. but there's enough from elsewhere to justify admission. (Mark Robertson)

The concept was cute. Glasgow artist Shrigley writes the words. scores of musicians - 39 of them! from David Byrne to Franz Ferdinand to Deerhoof supply the music. The reSLilts vary Wildly. from harmonious folks plucking to Winsome electro to heisterous pop. The commonality is that most have picked up on the warped sense of reality and fun borne put of Shrigley's art. Like his books. you're bOund to find something here that leaves you cold while others you“ cherish forever.

This is as far from the blissed-out Ibiza late- night comedown as you c0u|d ever Wish. Burial's intention was to create a soundtrack for a moment in the middle of the night; a moment of dark contemplation and he has does so in his own unique Style.

This album is about the phosphorous glow of streetlights. the click and purr of a CCTV camera. snatches of wailing dance muSic from a passmg mini- cab. the rhythm of rain on the roof of a car. imagine the first Streets records Without the vocals. left out in the cold to get all teary eyed and reflective. Driven by mechanical drum breaks and given a wistful beautiful melancholy through disembodied vocal snatches. down-a-well Synths and lots and lots of bass. Untrue is both disconcerting and mowng. often in the same tune.

Wet Wet Wet Timeless Pellow and his compadres reform for their eighth studio album of River City $0ul.

John Vandenlice Emerald City (Barsuk) Eminently likeable singer-songwriterly character studies from this immensely underrated mu5ical talent who moonlights as techie journo. Orayetar A Million Pieces (Graystar) A collection of fresh anthemic indie turns from this Liverpoool/ Edinburgh quintet. The Heavy Great Vengeance and Furious Fire (Ninja Tune) Big Led Zep riffs are to the fore for this interminably funky outfit's debut. Buucociu Buzzcocks: 30 (Cooking Wnyl) The original punk popsters are wearing well as this invigorated live album attests.
