CAT POWER Jukebox 'Mulmion O...
No one does melancholy like Chan Marshall, and on the second of her legendary covers records she takes sadness to staggering new levels. Backed by the Dirty Delta Blues band, the Georgia-born singer/songwriter treats us to some beautiful, stripped-down versions of works made famous by Frank Sinatra, Hank Williams, James Brown, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin alongside two new tracks of her own.
The songs and their totally fresh treatments and subtle arrangements make for remarkable listening, while the musicianship on display is really quite striking. On the strength of this incredibly accomplished effort, anyone predicting that Cat Power is due to take a creative nosedive should
