The best new nights in town. This month: Back Tae Mine
Residents Gavin Dunbar (of Camera Obscura), Ally Cook and Nal Townley. the men behind the Woodside Social Club's now- departed Winchester Club. Guests Regular. and generally as steeped in the Glasgow scene as a can of warm Tennants in Kelvingrove Park. This fortnight features guest DJ turns from Jim Brady of Glasgow bands Nanobots and Bleachie (15 Feb) and Teenage Fanclub's Gerry Love (22 Feb).
Music policy 'Anything goes. from New Wave to current alternative music. with bits of pop. Motown and Northern Soul.‘
What they say “We brought the Winchester to the Flying Duck. but the management there were very interested that we take the club weekly rather than monthly.’ says Dunbar. ‘It was becoming a bit of a chore to find and book the bands we wanted to every month — because live music was a big part of the Winchester - and the Flying Duck's a better space for DJs anyway. so we decided to start with a completely new slate. The idea is that we have guests in and they play whatever they want in relaxed surroundings. as if it were their own house.‘ What we say That house party vibe that's being reached for is so ingrained in Back Tae Mine already that tea and toast is served around 1am to all the customers in what Dunbar describes as a 'frenzy' on the part of the staff. Only amidst Glasgow's indie diaspora could something so homely happen in a nightclub. as Dunbar reminds us that the Flying Duck is owned by the same team behind Mono. Stereo. The 78 and formerly The 13th Note. and that Back Tae Mine is simply carrying on a long legacy of West Coast excellence. (David Pollock)

‘Some of the acts will have 3 Valentine‘s theme. some a Venetian, and others a bit of both. We even have a pillow fight.‘ laughs burlesque performer and Burlescapades! organiser Lily White. ‘It’s not strictly just burlesque and striptease. we really go for a cabaret atmosphere, so it’s more like a variety show.‘ And with a veritable gamut of some of the UK's best burlesque performers and musicians taking part, from brunette bombshell Leyla Rose to Gwendoline Lamour and Missy Malone, Burlescapades! has a little something for everybody.

her Venetian boudoir show. which has already been showcased at one of Elton John‘s White Tie and Tiara Balls. where she ends up wearing two glitter-filled golden powder puffs and nothing more. Her costume has about 4000 swarovski crystals sewn into it so it's very glittery and very opulent.‘ Also performing on the night will be Boo Hewerdine. best know for his collaborations with Eddi Reader. However at Burlesquapades! Hewerdine will play a selection of hits and debut his one-man comedy show.
Jeans. trainers. and all manner of casual wear are a strict no-no (Gypsy Rose Lee would be turning in her grave) but anything from full-length ball gowns to top hats are more than welcome. ‘Some of the best shows I‘ve been to are the ones where you can hardly tell the difference between the audience and the performers.‘ adds White. ‘80 don‘t be shy!‘ (Zaineb Al Hassani)
