How did you get that job?

Name Sarah David Job Title Managing director/ booker

Wily Cabaret Voltaire

When did you start your lob? I took over ownership of Cabaret Voltaire three years ago. However I gained my experience in the industry working as general manager and booker at the Liquid Room for the best part of 14 years.

Sowhatdocsyouriothvolveflpretty much oversee everything as I am a bit of a control freak . . . For example, I answer all the general enquiries emails at Cab as I feel it's a really nice touch to have the owner write back to you. This literally takes up 40% of my day. I deal with all the DJ bookings; oversee the booking of live acts; deal with the press; manage the diary; coordinate the corporate events/private bookings in our new floor “The Speakeasy'. I like to get hands on in the evenings by working as waiting staff and glass collecting so as not to lose touch. I am truly fortunate, however, to have an incredible team working with me at the Cab. The staff are all so passionate about what they do and for that I am grateful.

W Aspects? Best: We make thousands of people happy every week by providing the facility for them to see their favourite band or DJ. When an artist walks onto the stage and you see people's faces light up and feel the atmosphere intensify, it truly is priceless. Worst: Never actually ever stopping working!

mmmammmuw lwas always a bit of a music fanatic while growing up, constantly making up mix tapes on my twin tape deck. spending all my money on records. In 1991 I went to university to study medicine but, deciding it wasn't quite me. I took a bar job in the Liquid Room. The job agreed with me and | rose quickly up the ranks. I was this crazy young girl who kept seeing new opportunities and ways to reach out to people and encourage them to come into the club. I kept suggesting new bands and DJs to book to increase the profile of the venue. l rose to the position of general manager and booker fairly quickly and remained in this challenging job for almost 14 years.

mummumammmeet involved in the industry as much as possible and learn from every experience within it. Don’t forget that the best way to lead is by example and never lose sight of why you are involved in this industry -- for the love of the music. Plus. determination, hard work, perseverance and never be above getting your hands dirty.

We do you to. M in It. you: the? I hope to have branched out into more outdoor events and festivals. I ran my first outdoor event last July (hopefully the first of many) and it was the proudest moment of my life so far.
