Line up for Edinburgh International Film Festival revealed

Festival took a step closer to

positioning itself as June's must-see event this week. with the launch of next month's much-anticipated lilFF programme. The festival's artistic director. Hannah McGill. caused a stir late last year when she announced they were moving out of their usual August slot. amidst Edinburgh's busiest festival season. and positioning themselves as a solo act. in a bid to attract big names and independent films that miqu otherwise have obligations over August. The festival will launch in suitable style with a

screening of John Maybury's The Edge of

Love. based on the life of poet Dylan Thomas. BAJ‘TA winner Keira Knightley is expected to join Maybury and co-stars Sienna Miller and Brothers and Sisters star Matthew Rhys on the red carpet. Documentaries will play an important part in the line-up. with the festival showcasing 22 documentary features from ll different countries. High glamour comes in the guise of

retrospectives on the incomparable French screen siren Jeanne Moreau and late

American actress and filmmaker Shirley Clarke. McGill said the two women represented the same ‘trailblazing spirit. boldness and intelligence‘ as the festival itself. Elsewhere. lilFF's popular Mirrorball strand will celebrate its 13th anniversary punting its usual brand of innovation and exploring the creative worlds of music. promos and advertising. This year affords a new spin with the inclusion of a series of live

events. as well as screenings. Highlights of

the programme include A Trip (hit with British Sea Power. at the Caves. followed by a Q&A session and live music soundtrack. The Mirrorball collective will also host the first Mirrorball Award for Best British Video.

I The Ingleby Gallery will celebrate I its 10 year anniversary with a move, this year, making it the largest private contemporary art gallery in the UK, outside of London. The move will take the popular gallery to a three-story residence at 15 Calton Road, behind Edinburgh’s Waverley train station. Six exhibitions will be staged yearly in the gallery on the 1st floor, with a concurrent series of six smaller shows in a second gallery space at street level. There will also be a permanent space devoted to prints and editions enabling the gallery to grow its own publishing activities.
