Name Ines Efron Born 9 May, 1984. Mexico. Background Despite being born in Mexico, actress Ines Efron has lived most of her life in Buenos Aires. After studying communication. art and design she'signed up for an acting course in 2002. Theatre and advertising work quickly followed and in 2006 she got her firSt big break in Alexis Dos Santis’ Patagonian teenage rebellion drama Glue. Ariel Winograd’s Cheese Head, an amusing portrait of an Argentinean Jewish family followed and then she took the bold step of starring in Lucia Puenzo's award-winning drama )O(Y about the travails of a teenage hermaphrodite.

What’s she up to new? She's just finishing work on Argentinean comedy Amorosa soleda with her legendary )O(Y co-star Ricardo Darin and then she will start work on Puenzo’s new film The Fish Child.

What she says about

. playing a hermaphrodite “For

the preparation of the character, Lucia explained to me what she talked about with different doctors. and she told me about different medical cases of intersexual people. She also gave me an Austrian documentary to watch called Octopusalarm about real life hermaphrodite Alex Jilrgen, which was very important for me. But in fact I didn't do a lot of research; I realised I had to use my own interpretation of the character rather than rely on any research or information i had been given about intersexuals.

What she says about the

. choices made by her

character’s parents In XXV ‘lt’s so difficult. It is a very

particular decision. and it . depends on a lot of different

factors. But I do agree with the idea of giving a person the opportunity to choose for themselves. 1 just hope that this movie helps those who identify with my character.

Interesting tact Efron and her younger )O(Y co-star Martin Piroyansky have been tipped by many Argentinean glossies as Latin American cinema’s next big thing. Hollywood beckons. perhaps. (Paul Dale)

I )O(Y is on selected release

' from Fri 16 May. See review.
