the most physically impressive and politically liberal actor of his generation, left behind a body of work that dwarves that of most of his contemporaries. Fred Zimmerman’s iconic 1953 war romance drama From Here To Eternity (pictured) will be screened this month and then there will be a break until July to make room for the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Highlights of this later part of the retrospective include Robert Siodmark’s The Killers and Criss Cross, Jules Dassin’s awesome Brute Force, Alexander Mackendrick’s Sweet Smell of Success and Luchino Visconti’s The Leopard. These great films are a fitting tribute to a real Hollywood star.
