A omumm

The Mill Edinburgh and The Mill Glasgow are about to open their doors. Both venues, created by Miller Genuine oralt, will showcase the best in emerging bands and Ms each week. one ol the first to perlorrn in Edinburgh will be Frightened Rabbit. So we asked Yvonne Mclellan, lrom The Mill's no team, to catch up with their lead singer. Scott Hutchinson, to find out lust how lrightened he really is.

I loined The Mill’s Aali team in support ol their manilesto to ‘support bands that are pushing the boundaries, both In their music and their approach’. It’s been amazing to see a brand really get under the skin or the emerging music scene and plough heavy investment into ollering-up two venues that will really add value to musicians and audiences - a glimmer ol hope In an increasingly competitive and commercially mainstream industry.

As part or the team I get asked to interview a lair lew up-and-coming bands. It’s a great job - especially when you get to meet the likes ol Frightened Rabbit This mysterious band, signed to the Brighton-based Fat Cat label, includes Scott Hutchinson, Grant Hutchinson, Billy Kennedy and Andy Monaghan. Together they are creating some ol the most exciting guitar-pop sounds around at the moment, and The Mill is giving you a unique chance to catch them

How would you describe Frightened Rabbit‘s musie?

“I suppose it’s lust guitar-pop music with slightly dark lyrics. Well, sometimes very dark lyrics. Musically. it's nothing experimental or groundbreaking, but I think with the words and the way we put brings together, there’s a slightly lelt lleld element to it. But it’s still totally accessible and I think that live we ‘up’ the energy a lair bit and lust try to give people a good show’.’
