Re: TV (607)

STV's High Times. to the best of my knowledge. has never been billed as a ‘black comedy" and. if so. this is clearly wrong. Stoners Rab and Jake are the only out-and-out comedy characters. The others might have lighter moments. but these reflect that Glaswegian trait of dealing with ad\.«'ersity through humour. lure. the humour and drama are very low—key but. for me. that's what makes the show so refreshing. High Times is about the exeryday dramas in the lives of ordinary people. Long may it continue in that vein. GeorgieBoy

Re: Food costs

I think it is disgusting how much food prices are rising. I have had to stop buying meat altogether as can't afford it. It costs close to 3‘9 for a chicken in our local Asda.

As if the prrce of food soaring isn't enough we are then told that it is simply because we ‘.'.'aste too much . . .

We are growing into a generation ruled by ‘best before' and "use by dates -— previously our food didn't have this Information printed on it ~ so how much food is actually

LETTER OF THE FORTNIGHT

CLUBBED TO DEATH Re: Club Noir

I am writing to complain about Club Noir's event at EICC on Saturday 16 August.

I have been to many Fringe events over the years but I have never before experienced something so dreadful.

My party was 12 and I think I can speak for all of them. as well as quite a number of people who voiced their opinion to me. in saying that we were thoroughly disapointed by the event. Many went home early.

We spent S‘I8. for what? Very small strip shows that you could not see unless you were in the front two rows all squashed up. music that did not inspire many to dance. a seat on the floor for all the beautifully dressed people to watch screens. and drinks at over $741 and having to queue for them.

There was no club. nothing really burlesgue. no spectacle. no cabaret. no chairs. tables and no music you would dance to.

There were a lot of people there who had made a huge effort. They were waiting for the party to begin. to see a show and dance the night away. Instead. they were going round asking ‘Is this it?’ or 'Is there another floor or a room we don't know about?

We thought you could get away with this sort of event in a very small dark club for 8‘5 with cheap boo/e. but we felt completely conned. If it hadn't been for the lovely people and everyone looking georgous I would have cried. What a shame. What a fabulousopportunitymissed.

I would like an explanation please and our money back.

Yours sincerely

Anna

being thrown because people are scared to touch anything if it is ‘out of date"? I often find things a little past their best are still absolutely fine for consumption. Supermarkets throw out tons of food. often well before its past its best. Perhaps if people and supermarkets weren't throwing so much food out we wouldn't be seeing as large an increase in the cost. YOU SHOULD BE DANCING

To the Debbie Downer who threatened to 'break my face' for dancing in front of him at the Raconteurs gig I'd like to offer my heartfelt thanks. Only now do I realise that the correct etiquette at a gig is to stand stock—still while breathing heaVily down the neck of the person in front of you in a manner which I can only assume is meant to be menacing but is actually rather comical. Perhaps you would like to accompany me to next month's Motorhead show at the Carling. where I'm sure 1:300 rockers would be grateful to hear your well-reasoned arguments about how to behave at a gig.

In honour of this year's Connect Festival, we asked: what's your festival accommodation of choice - a teepee, a yurt or a hotel room?

‘The yurt is the new teepee for today's discerning pretentious hippy’
