Scottish Style Awards announced, with ceremony to take place in
October. Words: Anna Millar lasgow’s cultural calendar enjoyed an injection of glamour this week. following news that the Scottish Style Awards are back with suitable sass. Organiser’s said last night that the awards ceremony. to be held at the end of next month. will be bigger than ever before.
This year‘s event takes place at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. with host Lauren Laverne joining the great and the good of Scotland to celebrate the individuals and enterprises who ‘enrich’ Scottish life through their work in fashion. music. the arts. stage. screen. retailing and hospitality.
Now in its fourth year. the evening will see more than a dozen of Scotland‘s biggest names step up to the plate and walk away award winners. in categories including Scotland’s most stylish Male, Female. Band or Musician, and the hotly contested Fashion Designer of the Year. Elsewhere in the programme, fashion lovers can feast their eyes on a runway homage to cashmere and tweed fashionistas, Johnstons of Elgin.
Mary McGowne, founder of the awards said: ‘In every respect, the Scottish Style Awards 2008 promises to be the most glamourous night of the year, and by far the most spectacular yet. We are proud to have firmly established the Awards reputation

Now firmly established as Scotland‘s foremost celebration of creative endeavour. I am always both delighted and amazed when I see the great wealth of talent that exists in Scotland in this area together in one room, and there’s really no finer ‘room‘ that the centre hall at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.’

A SKETCH OF Jack Vettriano’s ‘The Singing Butler’ drawn during a one-hour masterclass has fetched £39,650 at auction. Vettriano gave the iconic piece to the University of St Andrews, and proceeds will go to St Andrews Students Charities Campaign. ‘
THE ARCHEB have announced the winner of their Brick Award, offering 21k to an emergent performance company or artist to re-stage their piece at the , theatre next year. Crocosmia by The Little Bulb Theatre and The Night Flyer by The Paper Cinema and Kora will both receive funding.

I Eddi Reader and John Martyn are just two headline names joining a slew of international stars next month when Fruitmarket Folk launches itself in Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket. Emmyiou Harris, Joan Baez, Art Garfunkel and Tommy Emmanuel are all reported to be making an appearance, with a programme that boasts John McCusker’s popular composition ‘Under One Sky’ and a performance by Luka Bloom.
