To be honest. my inspiration for the film was from Roberto Rosselini's Paisa and then I started to work. as I always do. on the location of the film. and then to rewrite the screenplay. using what had been told to me by the locals. The author had seen my films and he wanted to work with me. or Paolo Sorrentino. In the end I managed to get the rights.’
