VENUE ON THE MENU

£3m for new Edinburgh arts venue

So there's 83m up for grabs to build a venue in Edinburgh. l have an idea. Now that Edinburgh CouriCil have finished ripping the city's live music scene a new one by pandering to the whims of developers. how about this: lets rebuild the Venue from Calton Road.

They did it with Liverpool's Cavern, and Manchester's Hacienda for 24 How Party People. so why not here? I'm Sure this sort of work is the bread and butter of many Las Vegas building firms. and they could do it for under 5.73m.

It's a quiet and respectable new development now of c0urse. with artists' studios (always the handy developer's get-out clause) offering ‘versatile space for the creative professional. Coming in around 5325 per sq ft. it's out of the league of most artists I imagine. They're still lying mainly empty if anyone is interested. At least it's more in keeping with Edinburgh Council's ‘lnspiring Capital' city makeover. I hear New York is a lot better now after Mayor Giuliani's similar campaign there.

There should be no trouble finding a piece of wasteground nearby for the 'New Venue' to

23m for new Edinburgh arts venue

I read with interest of the anonymous donation of Siam for the building of a new venue in Edinburgh. The only conditions that need be met are that the new building must be ‘creative and elegant' and bring ‘ioy and delight'.

What's the one thing that Scotland lacks? That's right. A revolving restaurant. Seattle has the Space Needle. Berlin has the television tower. there are dozens in the Far East but none here. Ok. so the Falkirk Wheel is pretty impressive. but you can't eat food or drink a beer whilst in motion. Unless you're in a floating restaurant boat. and when was the last time you

The Seience Centre was a bit of a disapi)ointment when it was banned from revolvnig. so we've got some national engineering pride to regain on this front.

We could build one from scratch or alternatively iust put one of the nation's best loved restaurants onto a pre—eXisting structure. How about putting the Noodle Bar on Sauchiehall Street on a big rotating pole on top of Arthur's Seat? Creative. elegant. joyous and delightful. C'mon people. Help

Re: Quantum of Solace (615) This is a crash-bang Bond. hiin on action. It doesn't disappoint just don't expect the brilliance of Casino Royale.

‘Forget jelly wrestling - bring on the haggis

It's orin Craig's performance along With the shifting morality of Bond's legion of enemies that forces the audience to root for him.

GHOULS OUT FOREVER

Re: Dead Set (615)

It's been a while since I've looked forward to something on the telly at Halloween. and I would have hoped Dead Set would rise to the occasion to spook me out for the weekend. The only thing that was spooky was how they managed to get what could easily be children to write the script. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed how it was filmed. but sprinting /ombies and cheesy one-liners just made me puke from a dairy overdose.

In the end. I kind of wanted them all to die. There was a lack of continuity in some characters ~- with the blonde being made out to be a bimbo one minute. then conducted a strategic /()IITI)I(,‘ killing mission the next. And why you would take a shower in the nude amidst this /ombie nation bamboo/les me. To summarise. Dead Set was IUSI dead boring.
