St Andrews Day While Homecoming 2009 will be the real biggie in terms of Saltire-waving celebration, various Scottish cities are building up to it with unprecedented displays of patriotism this St Andrew’s Day. Virtually every tourist attraction in Edinburgh (or at least most of those on the Royal Mile) has got some sort of special offer or celebration happening this weekend. Princes Street Gardens and Glasgow’s George Square, meanwhile, are being turned into centres of tartan-trimmed activity in the days leading up to our national hootenanny, with concerts, ceilidhs, storytelling and history events, all for free!
