ollowing its notable success last F year. The List is pleased to see the return of the 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP). to Edinburgh‘s Cameo cinema at the end of May. Filmmakers from across Scotland will be offered the opportunity to spend a weekend making a film in just 48 hours. Last year‘s winner. Lee Archer. has

enjoyed critical acclaim on the back of

his 2008 entry. recently returning from the Miami International Film Festival‘s

Filmapalooza. the international finals of

the 48 Hour Film Project. His film Travel Plans. starring Scottish actor Jimmy Chisholm. was screened alongside 70 other winning pieces from around the world.

This year‘s winner will not only be in with a chance of winning the grand prize of Avid Media Composer software. but will also be invited to attend the 2009 Filmapalooza in Las Vegas. Filmmaking teams of all sizes and backgrounds will meet at the Cameo bar on Friday. May

Africa in Motion (AiM) are looking for African filmmakers to submit short film. with all shortlisted films due to be screened at the 4th Africa in Motion Film Festival in October. at Edinburgh‘s Filmhouse. The deadline for competition submissions is 30 June. with the shortlist of films selected by an AiM viewing committee and announced in August.

A GOLDEN OLDIE RETURN

Edinburgh Castle Concerts and Historic Scotland have announced that Duran Duran will perform at Edinburgh Castle on Thursday 16 July as part of the 2009 Edinburgh Castle Concert series. DD can boast 30 UK Top 30 hits including ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’, ‘Save A Prayer’, ‘Rio’ and ‘A View to a Kill’.

CALTONGATE development by Mountgrange Capital has collapsed after the Bank of Scotland pulled their financial support. The controversial plans for the development of Edinburgh's Old Town had previously attracted hundreds of objections from campaigners and heritage groups. The plans included a luxury hotel, an office complex and 200 homes.

THE DATE FOR next year’s Oscars has been bumped until later in the month to avoid a clash with the Winter Olympics. The 82nd Academy Awards will now happen on 7 March, two weeks later than this year’s ceremony on 22 February. The 2010 Winter Games are scheduled for 12- 28 February.

NUTINI DATES CONFIRMED

I Local lad Paolo Nutini has announced a string

of Scottish Dates in May, to showcase songs from his new album Sunny Side Up set for release on 1 Jun. The album has been written by Nutini and produced by Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon, Ryan Adams). His new single from the album, ‘Candy’ will be out on 25 May. Elsewhere Nutini’s been confirmed for the Isle of Wight, Glastonbury, T in the Park, Oxygen and V festivals.
