Music policy The more leftfield end of the world of techno. from harsh acidic squelches through serious BPMs to mind expanding electronica.

What they say ‘Section 63 kicks off proceedings in its new home at The Arches with an inaugural party of filthy techno and electro bleeps. blips and beats brought to you by some of the world‘s finest electronic artists. Dave Tarrida requires little introduction to Glasgow's clubbers; his residency at Test cemented his reputation as one of the city's techno godfathers. Dave's DJ sets are legendary so if you like your techno hard. raw and wonky don't even think about missing this. Long time Tresor resident Pacou brings the Teutonic machine music flavour to the party. He can be found regularly destroying dancefloors around the globe. What we say They're right, it's a damn impressive line-up with a clear statement of intent: intelligent techno with no compromises. Producer and DJ Rick Bull, aka Deepchild, has just woken up on a Friday morning in Seattle and is in contemplative mood. ‘I was in Detroit a couple of days ago,’ he says, ‘and it’s hard not to be moved by the desolation of the place. There’s a big gap between the rich and the poor there, and people are sold these dreams which we now know are completely unachievable. So [classic Detroit techno] groups like Underground Resistance are even more amazing to me now for the alternative they proposed, a melancholic futurist vision based around poor guys using little musical toys from Japan.‘

in Edinburgh, the latter because his partner works for the Fringe and International Festivals. He first met his informal label boss at Glasgow's Seinan Music Andy Graham (aka Droido and Sei A) online, which has been a common way of working; he's also collaborated with Booka Shade in Berlin, Jimpster in London and now the Dirtybird team on America‘s west coast, all through online introductions.

He’ll be curtailing his globetrotting to play the first in a projected series of irregular club nights showcasing the best of Seinan's recording collaborators; other potential future guests include Milton Jackson and Llorca. Once an enthusiast of dub-style basslines, Bull says he finds himself more enthused by dancefloor- ready techno as he grows older; ‘whatever I’m playing, I like to put my smudgy thumbprints all over the classic template and mess it up just a little bit.‘ (David Pollock)
