MUSIC ROUTES FESTIVAL

1: It's folk music, but not as we know it Actually, deSpite being a compact and biiou seven-day mu5Ic festival organised by the Leith Folk Club. Music Routes features an impressively eclectic range of sounds. all gigs hosted In the cosy confines of the back room in the Village pub in Leith.

2: So we get hot jazz, vintage rhythm and blues, old-time country and tin pan alley . . . and that's just from one act. the excellently named Two Man Gentleman Band. all the way from New York City.

3: And an lnspiral Carpet Former lead vocalist Tom Hingley will be doing a solo show. not too far removed from the sound of his old band and. we hope. drawing material from his superbly titled album Abba are the Enemy.

4: And soundscapes Courtesy of Stringiammer aka Conrad lvitski Molleson. an Edinburgh-based purveyor of quality electronica. glitch and all round weirdness.

5: Oh, and some folk music too Plenty of excellent folky fare from the likes of Scandinavian- British nu-folkers Fribo. Scotland's finest traditional troubadours Malinky. fiddlers Laura Cortese and Jamie Smith and a performance from Lori Watson (pictured) and Rule of Three which doubles as the Leith Folk Club's fifth birthday party.
