As graduates from the Glasgow School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art prepare to set out their stalls for this year's degree shows, The List previews the best up-and- coming talents from across the disciplines
ILLUSTRATION
Stewart's work adorns record sleeves. editorial pages. zines and books. Her vivid prints. including ‘Giant Bear in a Tiny Village' (pictured). will be on display alongside illustrations for Dee Brown's history of the demise of the Native American Indians. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.
DRAWING & PAINTING Barcelona-born Canovas creates images of a parallel fantasy world using a medium he calls 'photo transfer painting'. His installation comprises 15 paintings brought together to create a meditation entitled 'Darkness of the American Dream‘.
SCULPTURE
Alex Allan has been building site-specmc works by the Water of Leith since last September. A working kiln made from abandoned bricks and a formation of driftwood made to look like a cascade of water have been re—assembled to form a massive. single work in the ECA sculpture studios.
GLASS
Catalonian graduate Ramon Beaskoetxea's work explores notions of masculinity and gender. His exhibition includes an anatomical arm with the muSCUIar parts rendered in glass and a more delicate lace-patterned hand crafted in copper.
PRODUCT DESIGN
The products in Payne's collection “New Souvenirs' are all Scottish by design. material or manufacture and include cups. plates and Cushions. His inspiration came from Edinburgh‘s sowenir trade and a desire to provide a positive memory of the capital.
PAINTING & PRINTMAKING
John and Mabel Craig Scholarship-holder Fiona Brown-Hovelt's work comprises found late-19th century Victoriana and studio born imagery that. when combined. present both unity and contradiction.
TEXTILES
Roden‘s range of interiors is based on fairground designs. from the ornate patterns of the 1920s to the kitsch. neon look of fairgrounds in the late 20th century. A former session musician Roden felt an affinity with fairground workers who lead a similarly itinerant life.
SILVERSMITHING & JEWELLERY
Pauline Edie takes her inspiration from children's stories and illustrations; her jewellery designs are particularly influenced by the weird blend of surrealism and dark imagery that informs the limitless childhood imagination.

FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY
Des Church's work includes drawn proposals for sculptures. installations and interventions, some of which have been made into setilptural pieces. which will be placed around the corridors and recesses of the Mackintosh Building.
PRODUCT DESIGN Janet Kelly. who has been shortlisted and highly commended for the Royal Society of Arts Design Directions competition, presents a project which looks at what washing will be like in the year 2025. including an innovative personal bathing space with meditation facilities.
