THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM

'Ill‘l’? Taking a nod from fellow New Jersey resident, Mr Springsteen. this band turbocharge his rock sound and concoct their own melodic bombast. And aren’t we all better for it? lnfusing a punk vibe too, The Gaslight Anthem attract listeners from both the edgy and the mellow side of rock, and just about everyone in between too. Perfect with an icy bourbon in one hand and a sunset in the background, but you’ll probably have to make do with a pint of Tennents instead. I“? ELSE? III“? Ensconced between The Dykneenies and Eagles of Death Metal on the line-up. The Game is probably going to find his time in Scotland a bit tough. The US rapper can take solace in Jay-2's headline grabbing set at Glastonbury though, which showed that rap can indeed have a place on the festival circuit. The pacifists among us hope the T crowd can take to The Game, who is partly known for his hip hop feuds yet who has considerable clout across the Atlantic.

THE AIRBOURNE TOXIC EVENT

m7? They may well be appearing on the Futures stage but The Airbourne Toxic Event. or at least their stand-out name, has been on the radar for a few years now. They're suitably stylish but it seems like they have the substance too, with their guitar-led indie rock sound complemented by violin and keyboards. A worthy headliner of the Futures stage? On evidence of their excellent self-titled debut album. releaed earlier this year, definitely. m1 ELSE? PASSION PlT

IIIA‘I'? Passion Pit have become a buzz band in the past months. and these Massachusetts upstarts are set to ride the wave of hype for the forseeable future. They've only got one album behind them the fizzing, synth-driven electropop squonk collection Manners but they are set to become this years' MGMT: the must see new band of the weekend. All signs point to them moving on to bigger things so you'd be best advised to check them out in these intimate surroundings before they’re drawing sizeable crowds in their wn right. man ELSE? IIIA‘I’? Boys Noize is the lovechild of Alexander Ridha and, well, his two hands. But wait. its not nearly as smutty as it sounds. With the turntables a 90-90. the German Ridha is one busy man, and with a plethora of remixes under his belt including experimenting with the likes of indie spods like Kaiser Chiefs. Fiest and Bloc Party there's no stopping Mr Noize. He's already laid bare his wares on the most excellent Bugged Out! Suck My Deck mix album last year but here’s a welcome chance heck him out in the flesh.

THE MACCABEES

IIIAT? Brighton-based Maccabees brought out their sophomore album Wall of Arms in May this year to critical acclaim and it has been a staple on the delapitated CD deck at List towers. The festival season gives the quintet ample opportunity to promote their latest fare. And where better to do that than at T, where their intrspective indie musings is sure to be received well ? New songs like ‘No Kind Words'. ‘Love You Better' and “On Hand Holding' suggest a band with skills beyond their tender years.

CLAUDE VON STROKE

IIIA'I’? Spare a thought for Mr von Stroke or Barclay Crenshaw as him nan calls him, he's traversing the country after his T show to perform in London on the same day. When he's not rocking dancefloors. he's running two record labels, Mothership and dirtybird. such is his dedication to the minimal house cause. If the idea of anything minimal seems like an anomaly at T. then you'd be wrong as Detroit's own son takes the musical heritage and reboots it in his own inimitable. understated style.

m7? So don’t get confused now. American quintet Of Montreal are not closet Canuks but from REM-land, Athens. Georgia. They head to Scotland again armed with an impressive back catalogue to douse the crowd in. Their sound is melting pot full of baroque indie chaos. with a psychedelic twist and some electronic flourishes. Best of all they know how to make a show a ‘spectacle' and seem to have a pretty switched on sense of humour, which is always a good thing for the T'ed up festival crowd.
