THE LEADER of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau is set to launch Glasgow’s Style Mile, a two year plan to expand and strengthen the role of the city centre as the UK’s premier shopping destination outside the West End of London. Plans are part of a proposed extension to the already successful Glasgow: Scotland with Style. PERTHSHIRE WRITER Mark Robertson is hoping to take Broadway by storm at this year’s New York Musicals Festival if he can get funding. In the frame Is it just us who think the Arches really can do no wrong? Adding to their to-do list, is a collaboration with next year’s Glasgow Film Festival. Titled ‘The Music Video,’ the GFF is accepting submissions for next year’s festival, in a bid to encourage the cross-fertilisation of clubbing culture, visual art, live music, theatre and the moving image. No matter what the style, organiser’s want to see it. The showcase builds on the success of last year, which boasted involvement from Glasgow based experimental rock group, Union Of Knives (pictured). FOODIE FUN As part of the Gourmet Glasgow dining festival, local food critics are getting a view from the other side as they become maitre d’ for the evening at various city restaurants over the month of August. The List’s food and drink editor Donald Reid will have the tables turned on him at Cafezique on Hyndland Street on Monday 17 August. Book a table on that night and you’ll have the chance to see how he copes with running the front of house service, as well as finding out a bit more about what his ‘real’ job entails.
