A LOAD OF RUBBISH Re: Upcoming bin strikes OK, so it looks like some on/off strike action from binmen is on the cards and some piles of rubbish in the street. However, we’re had years or

green and eco-messages dished out to us from all corners, so maybe this is a chance for everyone to put their money where their mouth is. Never mind doing the odd bit of bottles, cans and paper recycling, now we might have to get rid of the lot in somewhere other than the bin unless we want to mistakenly build a barricade of bin bags preventing us from leaving our own homes. SHOPPING FOR BLOOD Re: Independent Shopping guide I love and support independent shops and cafes and am lucky enough to live amid several in Otago Lane, home of Mixed Up records, Voltaire and Rousseau and Tchai Ovna among others. I would like to point out that these are all currently under threat by a massive development planned for Otago Lane that will likely end in their closure. So really, the true death knell

TRIBUTE TROUBLE Re: Whole Lotta Led I went to see this Led Zeppelin tribute band. Not a bad night out, but they really need a new singer, as their current one is clearly not up to the task. Whole Lotta Led play all the Zep classics you would expect and, despite not having any keyboards, they still battle through epics such as ‘Kashmir’ and ‘No Quarter’, which is brave of them. However, it doesn't quite come off. Maybe they should employ a keyboard player after all. They certainly don’t go for the lookalike angle either, so are

clearly opting for the ‘soundalike’ approach, but the thing is, they don’t because they don’t have any keys. So. Don’t look alike and don’t sound alike. Isn’t that the two pre-requisites to being a tribute band? Canny Lass, Edinburgh Comment posted at List.co.uk

I'm not one for museums but this was the best place I've ever been and the highlight of my

recent trip to Scotland! It was amazing and so diverse! There were even Egyptian mummies and reconstructions of extinct species and clothes from various generations. Hours of entertainment and, crazily, it's free! Try getting the tour bus of the city from George Square. It only costs £8 and the ticket lasts two days. Absolutely fantastic value! GANGSTER PARADISE Re: The Godfather re-issued This will be amazing. Both Part I and II of this epic saga changed the way I view cinema forever. What a pleasure it will be to see this up on the big screen. Can we also add flying saucers and apple liquorice to the mix? Mr C Bottle

WESTERN APPROACH Re: Bill Bailey I know that the world revolves around Edinburgh in August, so I was seriously heartened to see Bill Bailey doing not just one but SIX nights in Glasgow. Everyone always spraffs on about the fact the Glasgow contingent don’t come through for the Festival, but actually maybe it’s just because we’d rather see good stuff on our own turf, like Mr Bailey. Take that Edinburgh. A Comedy, Glasgow
