I make music, both as part of American Men and Superisraelgoballistic! and also under my own name. How did you get into that? I’ve been playing in rock bands and messing with synths since high school. We formed American Men in Barcelona shortly after our other band, RUSSIA (the three of us plus long time friend Tony Jaguar), stopped playing shows. I quit being a chef to become an art student, which is amazing – being able to draw and

A misspent youth with underground hip hop, rave tape packs and Sade albums. What’s so good about LuckyMe? Unpretentious freshness. Who are you? My name is Dominic Flannigan but I sometimes get called Dom Sum. Where do you come from? I’m a self-hating Edinburgher. I rep Glasgow. What do you do? I’m in a group with Martyn Flyn called The Blessings and together we run the LuckyMe label which keeps us pretty busy. I’m also a designer. How did you get into that? I was young and naive and these subcultures were cool and alien. No one told me it would be really dumb to run a hip hop label with our base of influences — from Scotland. What labels are you signed to? LuckyMoi and now Nod Navigators / Kindred Spirits. Why is LuckyMe so good? It’s honest and we’re basically good people. Describe your sound R&B. art direction with Dom Sum as part of LuckyMe Arts Collective. How did you get into that? I got involved with LuckyMe through meeting Dom on the Visual Communications course at Glasgow School of Art. I’ve been creatively involved with LuckyMe since then [2001] shooting gigs, press shots and album covers. We now work on creative projects for other music artists, magazines etc. as well as our in-house work. Why is LuckyMe so good? As a group of artists, musically and creatively we are really diverse . . . we bounce ideas around, often have heated discussions and still manage to socialise together regularly.
