THE LOVAT, LOCH NESS Being handed homemade biscuits on departure is just one of the homely extra touches that makes The Lovat special. ‘We want our guests to be able to kick back and enjoy spontaneous natural hospitality,’ says owner Caroline Gregory. This beautifully restored hotel has been earning excellent reviews since refurbishment was finished in 2007. The Victorian main building is supplemented by studio annexes, with rooms done out in a hybrid of classic 19th century grandeur and contemporary chic, including walk-in showers and enormous comfy beds to complement the views over the loch and the Caledonian Canal. The restaurant has an honest, seasonal menu, and the bar offers an impressive selection of whiskies that number in the triple figures to satisfy connoisseurs and the curious alike.
