THE SCOTTISH ARTS COUNCIL has confirmed Scotland will participate in La Biennale di Venezia in 2011. The 54th Venice Biennale in 2011 will be Scotland’s fifth appearance at the internationally renowned exhibition and promises to build on the critical success of previous Scotland and Venice projects.
SCOTTISH OPERA’S SPRING production of La Bohème is to be re- imagined courtesy of Tony award- winning director Stewart Laing. Laing will take the story from its original home in Paris and present it in the modern art scene of 21st century New York.
CONGRATULATIONS to Scottish Ballet which has won an award for Twitter activity in the Business to Consumer category at the Golden Twits, the first award ceremony celebrating the social media website Twitter.
EIF SHOWS TAKE TO THE LONDON STAGE ■ Two former Edinburgh International Festival shows are to be staged at London’s Barbican this spring. Polish theatre company TR Warszawa’s 2008 production of Sarah Kane’s 4.48 Psychosis will begin its run in March, with Heiner Goebbels’ I Went To The House But Did Not Enter (pictured) kicking off in April. Details of the EIF’s 2010 programme have already been announced with theatre from North, South and Central America and dance from the Pacific Rim.

Exposure As a New Year dawns some of Scotland’s finest have banded together to create a totally unique photo opportunity. Words: Anna Millar
W ith the New Year’s resolutions now in full swing, daily photo blogging community Blipfoto has teamed up with Channel 4, the National Theatre of Scotland and Scottish Screen to create a unique international photography competition. With followers and contributors from Dundee to Peru, the project’s aim is to celebrate and share extraordinary moments and stories from everyday life, online.

Launched different competitions throughout the year, until September 2010, the first competition: Unstaged: Scotland at Play will run through to February 2010. Details of the subsequent two competitions will be announced in early and mid 2010.
For the Unstaged strand, creatives are invited to send in submissions that capture the ‘spirit of performance and play’ in Scotland. The only competition with a geographic limitation, photos must be taken in Scotland to be eligible. Entry is open to anyone over 13, with a separate category for under 18s.
