GILLIAN KYLE Who would have thought that a loaf of Scottish Pride would be a fashion statement? You could opt for one of Kyle’s lovely Tunnocks teacake tote bags, but in terms of impact, it has to be the bread every time. £22 from www.gilliankyle.com

LIZZY STEWART This wonderful ECA graduate has become the darling of illustration blogs recently, wrapping her pencils around many dainty designs. T-shirt available (along with many other great designs) through Oddities Clothing. £32 from www. odditiesclothing.com

JEWELLERY

Glasgow BRAZEN STUDIOS 58 Albion Street, 552 4551 www.brazenstudios.co.uk

As London and New York catwalks roll out the good, the bad and the strange, we bring you some of the looks and the look-the-other-ways for the coming season

Creating one-offs and hip, edgy bespoke pieces, with a handful of specialist silversmiths on staff, you’re more likely to find a rhodium-studded punk pin than a bog-standard drop pendant amid the display cases.

KALO 26 Kilmarnock Road, 649 3444 www.kalojewellery.co.uk Sophisticated designer pieces at this contemporary jewellery store. With understated bangles at around £50, and stunning engagement rings costing a few thousand, there’s plenty of variety and even a rare selection of good-looking jewellery for men.

MAIDEN GLASGOW Studio 15 West End, 07732 083090 www.maidenglasgow.com Young vibrant jewellery design company, courtesy of two young Glasgow designers who trained together at Glasgow School of Art.

Edinburgh PEBBLES 9 Jeffrey Street, 557 4908 www.pebblesjewellery.co.uk Run by husband and wife team Kevin and Val Trotter there are some lovely designer rings on sale here.

RED DOOR GALLERY 42 Victoria Street, 477 3255 www.edinburghart.com A friendly boutique on one of Edinburgh’s best shopping streets, selling primary-coloured plastic brooches, cutlery-inspired earrings and locally-designed necklaces.

TOYS Glasgow THE SENTRY BOX

175 Great George Street, 334 6070 A special mention for this beautiful West End toy shop with its traditional yo-yos, kites, hoola hoops and dolls houses. Style for your toy box.

Bebaroque KNEE-HIGH SOCKS Yeah, yeah we know: you aren’t five any more and the pigtails are long gone, but work with us here people. We’re not talking your bog-standard woollen knit here, this is all about the sporty or the soft and striped. Think school jock meets Alicia Silverstone circa Clueless.

THE BOY BLAZER Oh how we love thee. Never far from the must-have list, this year sees the tailored look out and the baggy ‘I borrowed his’ back in. Wear with jeans or over a dress. Any look is a good look. If you don’t have a boy to pilfer from, or your boy is not so fashion forward, Godiva, Armstrong’s and Saratoga Trunk always have great blazers going begging.

THE BODYSUIT The List would be the first to admit that these 90s bad boys were never the most comfortable of fashions what with all that poppers-at-the-crotch business, but effectively they were like a wee touch of Spanx before the world’s greatest invention ever got a look-in. Keep a lookout for Bebaroque’s new range (above); if their tights are anything to go by, their body range should be flying off the shelves and into your wardrobes in no time.

CYCLING SHORTS Yes really. There are no words, so we’re simply moving on. For the braver aficionado: the leather hot pant. Think a more fetish-inspired, less gold Kylie in that video. KITTEN HEELS Forget their propensity for getting stuck in cobbles and pavements, kitten heels, aka the flat shoe with a kiddie heel, are back, and this time it’s with a vengeance. Where Louis Vuitton and Marc

Jacobs have laid the groundwork with their latest innovations, the independents are sure to follow.

ORANGE Mostly on the lips, orange is swiftly nudging its old school ‘pillarbox red’ sibling off the front pages. Sexy, sultry and susprisingly easy to wear actually, no self respecting make-up bag should be caught without it. The same goes for grey nail varnish. Which, very handily, will match the orange lippy just fine. (Anna Millar)
