The launch for the 17th annual List Eating & Drinking Guide celebrated a year’s worth of culinary excellence in one extraordinary night of speeches, awards and delicious canapés. Climbing up the carpeted steps to collect awards at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre recently were the local favourites who topped the List Readers' poll, Urban Angel (Edinburgh) and Lebowski's (Glasgow). The best of the year's newcomers were also announced, with Edinburgh awards going to Ondine for showcasing Scottish and sustainable seafood and The Water of Leith Café Bistro for putting real food into neighbourhood eating. Through from Glasgow to pick up their newcomer awards were the teams from The Dining Room, a winner for its skilled but accessible city-centre dining, and Cookie, recognised for breaking the mould of local eating and drinking. The
judges' Special Award was given to Tim and Fran James of Creelers restaurant in Edinburgh for their longstanding commitment to the promotion of sustainable local seafood. Thanks to all our sponsors, especially Birra Moretti, for their help putting together a fantastic night, and to Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre for hosting the event.
