This month’s book is Ellen Feldman’s Scottsboro: a Novel, a dramatisation of an infamous series of real events that took place in Alabama in 1931, when a group of black youths came up against a bigoted and incompetent justice system. Art students, young authors and illustrators from schools across the city who have been working with Vivian French to put together this fun exhibition of animal books and drawings.

Third edition of the spoken word, music, film and performance night run by Glasgow-based writer-performers Anneliese Mackintosh and Kirstin Innes. This month they’ve got music from Swimmer One, live hip hop from Bigg Taj, sequinned, dragged up performance poetry from Drew Taylor and new writing from Jane Flett and Simon Sylvester.

Dundee Literary Festival Watch out Edinburgh, there’s a new kid on the east coast block. Well,

OK, chances are Dundee’s bookish extravaganza might never quite reach the exalted status of the capital’s world-beating literary fiesta but it’s making a very strong case for itself with a series of events that includes the likes of Nick Cave, Jackie Kay, Alan Warner, John Carey and Iain Banks (pictured) plus an all-day comics conference.
