FirstWord EDITH BOWMAN

BBC presenter and Anstruther lass-done- good Edith Bowman is coming to Balado for this year’s T in the Park. But she’s notbringing her wellies, right?

First record you ever bought ‘When Doves Cry’ by Prince. I love it! First film you saw that really moved you The Deer Hunter.

Last time you were star struck I might vomit if I meet Jay-Z. Properly a little bit in love with Jay-Z. First concert you ever went to Rod Stewart with my mum when I was 7. ‘Baby Jane’ always has a special place in my heart.

Last song you sang at karaoke Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name Of’. It was brilliant, so liberating.

Last book you read James Frey I’ve just re-read A Million Little Pieces, which is wicked. Last time you exploited your position to get something I do it all the time, it’s a perk of the job. I had to get so many people into the Snow Patrol gig in Bellahouston Park. I had to switch my phone off at one point. I was like, ‘I can’t ask for any more!’ I also got offered new wellies

for T in the Park but turned them down because I don’t want to tempt fate. I’m gonna need them for Glastonbury, that’s obvious, but not T, thanks very much. It’s gonna be a beautiful weekend.

First thing you do when you’ve got time off work We’re starting to take Rudes, [her two-year-old son Rudy] with us to gigs. Tom [Bowman’s partner Tom Smith, lead singer of Editors] was supporting Muse this month in Paris, so we met him out there, and Rudes stuck his headphones on and watched The Big Pink and his dad, it was wicked. First movie you went on a date to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The guy’s now gay, which is quite funny. Either I or the film must have turned him gay.

First time you realised you were famous I never really think of myself like that to be honest. If you do, you’re doing it for the wrong reasons. First great piece of advice you were given From a friend of mum’s it’s about being yourself. That’s where people connect with you. And also not to take no for an answer. I’ve still got a file full of ‘no’ letters, which I’ll always keep just to read every now and again.

First thing you’d do if you ran the country We’d have a ‘hug day’. On my cycle to work, I guarantee there’s 20 people I want to hug.

WeLike The things making our world just that little bit better

Last time you cried At Paul McCartney’s concert. He did this big speech about John Lennon. He said, ‘You know how in life you wish you’d said things to people, but then you never get the chance to? Well, this song’s about a conversation I had in my head with my good friend John.’ That was me, I was off.

not very often. Last thing you think of before you go to sleep Rudy. That’s the only thing that’s changed significantly since we had a baby. He’s the first and last thing you think about, as opposed to yourself or your partner.

First thing you think of when you wake up Rudy. If I wake up before him, which is Edith Bowman presents TiTP coverage on BBC 3 and BBC 2 Scotland from Fri 9–Sun 11 Jul.

We have long known that the geeks will inherit the earth. But for further proof, we have been very much enjoying the website beforeyouwerehot.com. All about making peace with your awkward years, we like their gallery of rubbishly coiffed, dubiously gendered ugly ducklings. We also enjoyed the news that Devo will star in the 100th episode special of Futurama. The cult Ohio art-rockers 2 THE LIST 24 Jun–8 Jul 2010

(pictured), who just put out their first album in twenty years, Something for Everybody, will star as campaigners for mutant rights.

We also rather enjoyed when soon-to-be octogenarian, Sean Connery

stopped outside the opening night party of the EIFF to dance with some Vegas showgirls and a funky oompah band. Check his moves out on YouTube. And just in time for

summer picnics, we like that ciders are moving away from their park bench, teen-drink shame, towards something altogether more chic. We like Kopparberg’s elderflower and lime cider, and Rekorderlig’s ssttrraawwbbeerrrryy aanndd lliimmee flavoured pear cider too. We reckon that must be at least two of our five a day. Surely.
