East Neuk Festival Although it’s not far away, rural Fife can sometimes seem like another world, especially when the sounds of the East Neuk Festival are spilling from centuries old country churches in the delightful villages of Crail, Cellardyke and St Monans. Opening this year’s festival is the Belcea Quartet, who have a long established affinity with Scottish audiences. Among the vocal highlights are soprano Katherine Broderick with pianist Malcolm Martineau. As ever, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra are the backbone of the five-day event which also features a special film, The Holiday Line, about rail travel in Fife in days gone by. Sadly, trains no longer run to the East Neuk but pack the picnic, get there somehow and enjoy the change of air. (Carol Main) Various venues, Fife, Wed 30 Jun– Sun 4 Jul. www.eastneukfestival.com
