JOSIE LONG KARMA RATING: 79 POSITION: 6TH

@neilmccomb Just saw ms @JosieLong at #edfringe and now love everything just that little bit more @glitterysah I plan on being a crazy mad geekface fan and meeting @JosieLong after her gig tomorrow, actually peeing-my-pants can't wait!!

@KWAIG I tried to send @JosieLong to Cash4Gold but apparently they don't accept comedy gold.

@glassarmy Went on the spur of the moment to go see @JosieLong. I think doctors should prescribe her gigs instead of antidepressants. @NewsBaron Back from my first stint at Edinburgh. Been ill and poor recently but @Josielong was propah good last night and cheered me up

Glasgow fair From superstars to super fashions, Glasgow’s got it all happening this month

I t’s going like a fair out west this month, with a bit of first, last and everything afoot. All things vintage enjoy a last hoorah at The Lighthouse, as indie shopping event Made in the Shade has its last boutique gathering before a move to number 2 in the Barras Centre in September. The Summertime Hop event on Sun 21 Aug marks the end of a two-year run that has celebrated over 300 designer makers. The new space at the Barras will play host to their office, workshop space, gallery and retail outlet. Look out for their updated calendar of events next month. Nearby at the GFT things are just as creative with The Empty Plinth Project, which offers artists the chance to take part in summer themed mini- exhibitions. Every week throughout August, a different artist will be chosen to fill the empty plinth

in the entranceway to the GFT with an artwork of their own creation whether it is a simple everyday object or something more imaginative. Dimensions must be approximately 280mm wide x 150mm deep x 700mm high. Send a 100-word proposal along with an image of the artwork to carolyn.mills@gft.org.uk. And finally, MTV have announced the arrival of Diddy to the Old Fruitmarket on 29 Sep. He of the ever-changing moniker will play tracks from his new collection Diddy Dirty Money as part of an exclusive free concert, which fans can apply to attend online at www.mtv.co.uk/crashesglasgow. The show will be filmed as a MTV Worldstage and broadcast via MTV channels in 161 countries and over 640 million households as part of MTV’s global Friday night live music programming.

TAKE5 BEARDS: FIVE HIRSUTE GENTS TICKLING OUR FANCIES (AND CHINS) THIS MONTH

Phil Kay Furry Fringe veteran Kay makes four fuzzy-faced appearances this year. His kids show Gimme Your Left Shoe makes a welcome return; there’s solo show In Tweed; a late-night radio show, RadioFree; and finally a collaboration with fellow hairy man Cammy Sinclair called Cammy and Phil’s Late Night Nonsense. Alex Horne Shaggy showman Horne will be hosting three Fringe shows: Odds mixes up maths, science and Powerpoint projections; The Taskmaster is the result of a year- long project in which Horne challenged 20 comedians to complete one task a month; and The Horne Section is his late-night ‘comedy-infused jazz’ show.

Beardyman One of only two of our bewhiskered performers to reference his beard in his name, Beardyman: Unshaved is the name of the UK Beatbox Champion’s two-night show at the Udderbelly. Accompanied by visuals creator Mr Hopkinson, Beardyman will improvise a lip-smacking, tongue- twisting beat performance.

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip Dan le Sac, the computer whizz- kid who puts the beats behind compadre Scroobius Pip’s spoken-word rhymes, may feel slightly over-shadowed (or should that be five o’clock-shadowed?) by the latter’s epic facial follicle furniture. He shouldn’t, though, as he has been known to sport an impressive set of mutton-chops. Bluebeard The infamous children’s bedtime tale of the bristly wife-killing villain is presented for one week only at theSpaces on the Mile: an energetic, music-filled adaptation that may not be suitable for the younger ones. Then again, in a story brimming with sexual undertones and marital murdering, it’s surprising that it ever was.
