WIRELESS SPEAKER Re: Free Wi-Fi in Glasgow (652) Thank you for your list of free Wi-Fi spots across Glasgow. Every other website just focuses on the West End as if it was the only place that mattered. I’m moving to the Southside soon and wanted to know if I could do away with my home phone and broadband altogether. I know of a couple of places you haven’t mentioned and I’m also a library member too, so the answer is: yes.

LETTER OF THE FORTNIGHT ALTERNATIVE VOTE

Article: LGBT highlights from Edinburgh Fringe 2010 (661) Thanks for flagging up this fantastic selection of shows. Wondering if I could add my tuppenceworth. I noticed in the programme a few other LGBT-related shows that may be a bit more alternative or less mainstream than the ones highlighted in this article, but ones that I’d say still deserve attention.

For example, variety shows such as Eat Your Heart Out at C

Aquila; Hairy Pretty Things at Fingers Piano Bar and The Magic Faraway Travel Agency at Cabaret Voltaire; queer spoken word shows like Ernesto Sarezale’s In the Name of the Flesh at the Banshee Labyrinth (Cinema) or Cat Brogan & Sophia Blackwell’s OUTSpoken, at the Banshee Labyrinth (Banqueting Hall).

I can run my business, even And no doubt more that I am sure I have

on public holidays, and if I don’t have broadband at home, I can take some downtime for myself! P Franks, Glasgow West (for now)

GOOD NEIGHBOURHOOD

Event: Clarkson and Crouch: Neighbourhood Watch Some clever ideas performed with some quite hilarious characters made for a worthwhile hour after lunch. Fairly surreal in places, but it remained understandable and immediate. It was bang, bang from sketch to sketch in the tiny room downstairs in the Gilded Balloon. You might not remember it as your favourite show of the whole

forgotten. Truly exciting! Larry, London Comment posted at List.co.uk

THE LETTER OF THE ISSUE WILL RECEIVE ONE BOTTLE OF THE BLACK GROUSE WHISKY Smoky and Smooth a marriage of fine peated Scotch malt whiskies and The Famous Grouse

festival, but you will keep coming back to some of the crazy ideas (an endless pot of porridge, loved it . . . ) Andy Haldane, Glasgow

KEVIN AIRS Re: Kevin Eldon prepares for some Titting About at the Fringe (662)

A truly astonishingly talented performer, and one of the scariest Buddhists you’ll ever laugh at. However, you did forget to mention his scene stealing performance in Hot Fuzz and this incredible sketch as Chairman Mao singing Roxy Music’s ‘Virginia Plain’ tiny.cc/kevineldon

Welcome to the Fringe Kevin! Charlotte Webb, New York City

FRINGE FOR FREE Re: Edinburgh Festival survival guide (663) Also make sure you look out for the Theatre Ninjas free ticket scheme running at the Edinburgh Fringe this year which lists shows offering free tickets. Audience members can visit www.theatreninjas.co.uk, check the list of last-minute free tickets, obtain the code and use Google Maps to find their way to the venue. Easy! Vicki T, Edinburgh

CORRECTION Re: Take 5 (662) Comedy duo The Aspidistras (below) are not appearing at Big Bite-Size Breakfast, as the photo we used suggested. They have their own show, The Aspidistras Secret Breakfast Gig, at Just the Tonic @ The Caves, 556 5375, 11.45am, 6–29 Aug (not 17), £5 (£4).

Board Meeting JO CAULFIELD

Another comedian puts pen to board for The List. When asked how she'd flyer her own show, Caulfield explains she'd point at the flyer and ask, ‘Do you know who she is? Off the telly? Well, it's her but she's much funnier live.’ That pretty much sums it up: you may think you know her brand of caustic wit from appearance on TV panel shows and her Radio 4 series but until you've seen it live, you haven't seen half of it. (Sian Bevan) Jo Caulfield is at the Stand 3, York Place. 7.50pm 6–29 Aug (not 16, 23). £9/£10.
