FirstWord Allison McKenzie

The star of the Royal Lyceum’s Snow Queen loves her mum, shopping and Michael Jackson. Not too keen on the Conservative Party, though . . .

First record you ever bought Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

First film you saw that really moved you ET. Last lie you told That I’d be on time for anything!

First movie you ever went on a date to Pulp Fiction.

Last time you cried Watching The Notebook last week. First thing you do when you’ve got time off work Phone my friends for a knees up.

Last great meal you cooked A Thai mega mix for my mum. I live down south so when I’m home I like to pamper her.

Last extravagant purchase you made I’m a shopaholic so anytime my purse comes out in a clothes shop is too extravagant for my delicate bank balance. First crush Michael J Fox. Back To The Future is still an all time favourite.

Last book you read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

First great piece of advice you were given The first time I was in a casino I won £5 and my dad (who loves a flutter) wisely told me to ‘quit while you’re ahead’.

Last time you were star struck When I met George Clooney in Cannes this year.

First thing you’d do if you ran the country Get rid of the Tories.

Last meal on earth Sea bass and mash potatoes from Pierre Victoire with copious amounts of vintage Champagne. First song at karaoke I need a few to get me up but then you can’t get me off. If pushed probably something by Babs.

Last time someone criticised your work I take criticism on the chin. Healthy criticism is constructive.

First three words your friends would use to describe you Fun, loving and inventive I gave all my pals an empty ‘box of love’ for Christmas one year. We still have a good laugh about that one. But I was skint. Ha! First concert you ever attended Michael Jackson’s Dangerous tour in

Glasgow Green. I’m so pleased I got to see him perform when he was alive. His stage presence was electrifying, he sang hit after hit and ended the show by soaring 100ft over the crowd in a jetpack and rocketing off. Genius. Last time you bought someone flowers I send a funny card and flowers to my mum every week.

First thing you think when you wake up in the morning If the sun’s shining in my room I’m a happy gal.

Last thing you think of before you go to sleep Night night x. Allison McKenzie stars in The Snow Queen, at the Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh, until Fri 31 Dec.

WeLike The things making our world just that little bit better

The recent snow-globe conditions have divided the List office into head-shaking grinches and grinning Noëlphiles. On the winter-hater team, complaints have been raised about seasonal shopping behaviour (manners maketh man, competitive shopper, manners maketh man), as well as indoor puddles, and the utterly undignified ginger mincing required while negotiating slushy/icy cobbles. Then there are those who have

embraced the blizzardous conditions, strapping on their YakTrax

(seriously though, have you got yours on yet? See left) and relishing the glühwein sipping/fondue eating/hiking sock wearing possibilities of this time of year. We like to see some creative snow sculpting going on too. We thought a snow dalek was a particularly good effort, until we saw this snow penis the other day in the Meadows. Ah. Ding dong merrily on high.
