HARD TO HAND-LE Dear Sir, Why do the chattering classes always use their hands to express themselves when talking? If I wanted a discussion by semaphore I would join the Royal Navy. BBC arts programmes are full of these poseurs. Who are they and why do they always interrupt each other mid flow, ill manneredly? Is this what a good education does for you? Anonymous PS: this is not a complaint. I am merely pointing out a peculiarity of modern day life.
Editor’s note: Dear anonymous letter writer. Yes, I do admit sometimes I have to switch over from Newsnight Review when the hand flapping gets a bit too much. Can I suggest a calming dose of Jarvis Cocker on BBC 6 Music (Sundays, 4pm) to soothe your nerves?
THE SHOW MUST GO ON Event: Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
I went to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarves at the King’s Theatre last night. It was brilliant and the whole cast were great. I did think it wouldn’t be the same without Gerard Kelly and he was sadly missed, but I liked how he was mentioned throughout the show. The cast did him proud. Well done again to the cast.

ANIMAL MAGIC Event: Animal Hospital An amazing club night. I love techno, and at Animal Hospital it was banging, danceable and accessible. Great visuals and amazing atmosphere – I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
There isn’t enough techno in Edinburgh, and Animal Hospital really caters well for the scene. Loved it. Pozz, Edinburgh Comment posted at List.co.uk
FUTURE DAYS I’ve been receiving The List magazine for the last year on subscription, which has been great. However, I’d just like to highlight an improvement that I think would be really good, as do others that I know that read your magazine.
LETTER OF THE FORTNIGHT
As the fortnightly issue is delivered on a Thursday, it would be really great if the events for that first weekend were detailed in the previous issue. At present, you don’t know about the weekend event until the Thursday the mag is issued, so you can come home to read about a great event, but see that it starts at 7pm that night or 7pm the next night, which doesn’t give much time to round up the troops. Editor’s note: An interesting point for discussion Alison. Part of the reason The List keeps within a fortnightly period is that extending that by another weekend would give us a huge amount to cover in around 100 pages. It’s also harder to be accurate when you’re listing events that take place over two weeks after publication as details can change at the last minute. Perhaps a ‘coming soon’ section for more significant events further ahead would help?
