With piano fans in high places (including Burt Bacharach, Elton John and Jools Holland), Rumer is a smooth-voiced songstress who’s also good at tinkling the ivories. She’s got a classic jazz lounge singer vibe about her, although her album is mainly geared towards pop sensibilities her vocals bring to mind Karen Carpenter and Carly Simon, while Bacharach was so impressed he asked if he could write a song for her. There’s a bit of a nod to the soul genre in there as well see the tellingly-named ‘Aretha’, from her debut album Slow. Classic Grand, Glasgow, Tue 18 Jan (rescheduled from Wed 15 Dec). (Rock & Pop)
