LIVE & UNSIGNED
Last weekend saw the Edinburgh regional finals of Live and Unsigned, the UK’s largest talent-seeking music competition for bands and singers. Edinburgh indie-rock foursome Lost Weekend (above) signed up for an audition, hoping to make it through to the national finals in London. Gavin Bannerman (guitar/ backing vocals) reports back on their day . . . ‘We’ve played around five live gigs so far — one at the Classic Grand in Glasgow, and a couple of times at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh. We’ve also played at a charity dinner at the Balmoral Hotel. In the next year or so, we’d like to continue playing gigs, possibly moving on to bigger venues. We would also like to take some time out in the summer to record an EP.
We don’t generally watch The X Factor, or other TV talent contests like that, but we decided to try Live and Unsigned because it looked less commercial and we thought it was more suited to our style of music. We enjoyed the audition at the Corn Exchange, despite the fact that we didn’t get through. The judges didn’t give us any feedback on the day, but we were told there might be some on the website at a later date. We spent a lot of time waiting around, and our audition didn’t start until two hours after we were told it would.
