The drawings and prints on show are either self-portraits or images created of the artists by others. A large collection of photographs by Adams (1875–1959), who is credited with revolutionising the forms of royal portraiture, presenting the royal family in a new and unprecedented informal light. The 2011 RSA New Contemporaries exhibition showcases some 60 of the finest artists and architects selected from the 2010 Art and Architecture Degree Shows all over Scotland. Vive la Tapisserie 2! This visually-exciting exhibition of miniature tapestries by the art collective STAR pays homage to the French Gobelin tradition of dyeing and tapestry manufacture while also providing a flavour of the creativity and diversity in current practice in Scotland. The artists are all graduates of the tapestry department at Edinburgh College of Art and the exhibition demonstrates current fibre practice as well as the use of electronic media and installation in tapestry making, with all the work underpinned by a strong emphasis on drawing.
