How did you get that job?

Right now, we’re focused on planning

Schuh’s 30th birthday and the Schuh Welly Exchange. The 30th will be the

biggest ad campaign and promo that

we’ve ever run, while the Schuh Welly

Exchange is an exciting new project that will be visiting a number of UK

festivals this year. Watch this space for

more information!

Best/Worst Aspects? I can honestly say there are no bad bits to this job, although taking sales calls

isn’t my favourite thing. One aspect I really enjoy is interacting with Schuh

customers through our Facebook and Twitter pages. It’s great hearing their

reactions to campaigns, as well as their

general thoughts on the brand. What I love is knowing that I’m

potentially shaping the way customers

and the wider public see Schuh and I

thrive on being in a role where I can have fun and be creative. I get a real

kick out of seeing an idea go from its original seed to fruition especially if

it goes on to be a successful campaign.

When did you start your job? I started in the marketing department in

So what does your job actually involve? One day I might be in the

office brainstorming ideas for press mail

outs featuring our new collections with our PR team, the next I might be

out at one of our stores coming up with

ideas to boost sales or footfall. When I’m in the office, I’m usually helping

since 1999! I worked my way through dream up new campaigns and

store management and then up through promotions. Any creative ideas we come

our head office customer service up with, whether for stores, online or

department, before deciding that I social media, we brainstorm as a team,

wanted to do something more creative. pad out, brainstorm and then it’s a case

especially while you’re young. My

current role was a big change and, at the time, a scary pay cut. I can honestly say I don’t regret it one single bit. Secondly, find your own way to be creative. At school I was terrible at drawing and painting so I always assumed that meant I wasn’t creative. That isn’t the case. Finally, make sure you keep learning and grab any training opportunities to make sure you stand out from the crowd. And finally . . . tell us more about the event management course you did at Edinburgh Napier? I wanted a course that I could fit in with my job. It was four intense fantastic days learning how to plan, conduct and evaluate events. I couldn’t believe that we learned from people who had worked on major events like the Sydney Olympics. Their theory and practical know-how was amazing. This will come in really handy with the Schuh Welly Exchange this year. Scotland is buzzing with events like the Edinburgh Festival, Fringe, T in the Park and the upcoming Commonwealth Games and the more we all get to learn from each other to make our events world-class the better.
